BGSU Pushes Cleveland State To Overtime, Then Doesn't Win

Rick Osentoski-US PRESSWIRE

In the opening round of the Preseason NIT, the overmatched Falcons were so close to actually setting up a date with Michigan, thanks to A'uston Calhoun's huge night.

I was not able to watch this game, although I might have had the means to attend the game, because what type of Ann Arbor-living Bowling Green well-wisher if I don't drop down some money to see them play when they're actually in town? Needless to say, the game wasn't on TV but the winner of the match would (likely) play Michigan, and that would be on TV, so that's something! Of course, Cleveland State was the better team (22-11 last year) so it didn't seem like the Falcons were going to pull off the win.

And man, they almost did.

BGSU held a narrow lead for much of the second half but Cleveland State tied it up in the final minute and a turnover in the final five seconds by Jordon Crawford killed that dream briefly. Then in OT, the Vikings just pulled away.

From the looks of it, A'uston Calhoun had a marvelous game: 30 points and seven rebounds will go a long way. Luke Kraus added 10 points, half of them on free throws, and Jehvon Clarke provided inn points, six rebounds and four assists. Richaun Holmes heated up with six points (all on dunks) and four blocks. Perhaps he can replace Torian Oglesby as a difference-maker around the rim?

So BGSU falls to 1-1 and instead of Michigan on TV, they will draw IUPUI on non-TV.
