People at Ford Field going to see probably not the MAC Championship Game. - Tim Fuller-US PRESSWIRE
Bowls of oranges and sugar are permeating the dreams of Kent State and Northern Illinois. Awaiting them is a football game played in Detroit, quite a drive from their comfortable dwellings. How much will the 65,000-capacity Ford Field be filled?
For reference, since they took the MAC Championship Game and played it in friendly neutral Ford Field:
| Year | Participants | Driving distance to Detroit (mi) |
Official Attendance |
| 2004 | Miami, Toledo | 256/54 | 22,138 |
| 2005 | Akron, NIU | 191/337 | 12,051 |
| 2006 | Ohio, CMU | 269/153 | 25,483 |
| 2007 | Miami, CMU | 256/153 | 25,103 |
| 2008 | Buffalo, Ball State | 273/232 | 12,871 |
| 2009 | Ohio, CMU | 269/153 | 23,714 |
| 2010 | Miami, NIU | 256/337 | 12,031 |
| 2011 | Ohio, NIU | 269/337 | 13,052 |
| 2012 | Kent State, NIU | 197/337 | ??? |
I left out the records of the teams because, sheesh, Ball State was 12-0 and that didn't make much of a difference in '08. Maybe they were just so confident they'd win that game that they didn't bother showing up.
The greatest turnouts crept into the twenty thousand marks, and you can thank Central Michigan for that. A game with Toledo also traveled well, mostly because they just had to take a short drive up I-75 to Big Toledo.
You're not playing for any prizes. Just try and guess.
