Here we are, another week in the books. You will be incredibly shocked to know that not a lot changed. Sure there was a little shuffle in the middle, but that was more because of all the off-weeks than because of any spectacular performance (no offense, Schottzee).
Could Akron be a step higher? Sure, if they had beaten a real team, not a wooden one whose quarterback's arm grows every time he tells a lie...but I digress. The top and bottom, in my opinion, both got a little muddier this week, both of which have me very perplexed and intrigued.
Rank | Rank (Pv) | Team | Record | What We Learned |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | 1 | OHIO | 3-0 | They stay on top for now, but by a slim margin. The Herd made Ohio's defense look a step below pedestrian, even if it was in waves. |
2 | 2 | BALL STATE | 2-1 (1-0) | Steven Schott should get at least two weeks worth of free drinks around campus for his performance this weekend. A thriller and a road win - classy, Lembo. Classy. |
3 | 3 | TOLEDO | 2-1 (1-0) | One Terrance Owens bomb and it was off to the races for Toledo. First conference win, check. |
4 | 4 | NIU | 2-1 | Turns out Jordan Lynch is a Chandler Harnish clone after all! Didn't stop them from needing his heroics to sneak past Army. This defense is a bit troublesome. |
5 | 6 | KENT STATE | 1-1 | Off this week, next up is Buffalo |
6 | 7 | BUFFALO | 1-1 | See what I just said up above there? Ditto. |
7 | 9 | CMU | 1-1 | Hope they're well rested. They'll need it for their next road trip to play the Hawkeyes out in Iowa. |
8 | 5 | BGSU | 1-2 (0-1) | 350 yards of offense is nice. Half of it coming after you're down 24-3? Well…at least Anthon Samuel had anther great game, huh? |
9 | 8 | WMU | 1-2 | So I guess it was too much to ask for the real Alex Carder to show up two weeks in a row? |
10 | 10 | MIAMI | 1-2 | I assume Boise took their foot off the gas. How else do you rack up 600 yards of offense and only 32 points? Well, good on the Hawks to make the trip and take their lumps. |
11 | 12 | AKRON | 1-2 | Kyle Pohl came in and went 7-10 for 119 yards and 3 TD's. After the game was aready out of hand. Even if it's Morgan State, games like that feel good for a young team. |
12 | 11 | EMU | 0-3 (0-1) | Absolutely awful. The defense allowed rushing touchdowns to five different players, and Gillett got benched after half his incompletions got picked off. I hope this is indicative of their competition and not them. |
13 | 13 | UMASS | 0-3 | Another lopsided one. This time the defense scored a touchdown…and then gave up a few. Bet they're glad to visit the RedHawks next week. |
