Ryan Burbrink Doubtful Vs. Rhode Island

Bowling Green receptions leader Ryan Burbrink is doubtful for the Rhode Island game, reports John Wagner. He strained his hammy during the Virginia Tech game. He has 20 catches through the first four games. This should equal more time for Je'Ron Stokes and/or Heath Jackson at receiver.

Defensive tackle Jairus Campbell will also be lost for the year, but everybody else who got dinged up in that game, including many defensive players, should be back on the field.

Nick Harwell Doubtful, Austin Brown Questionable Vs. Akron

That leg just isn't getting much better. Standout wide receiver Nick Harwell has missed Miami's last two games (Boise State and UMass). Rick Cassano reports that Harwell is doubtful for the Akron game, and defensive tackle Austin Brown (back injury) is questionable for the game. Brown has also missed the last two games.

The RedHawks able to skate with a victory against the Minutemen, but did struggle on both sides of the ball in the first quarter.

Willie Culpepper will continue to start at F-receiver in Harwell's absence, while Mwanza Wamulumba remains in Brown's usual DT position.

Kent State QBs Spencer Keith, David Fisher Will Share Time

Allen Moff reports that due to a lack of impressiveness at the position, Kent State coach Darrell Hazell has decided that backup quarterback David Fisher will share snaps with senior Spencer Keith against Ball State. Said Hazell:

"We're not getting the productivity in the passing game that we need at this time, and we want one of those guys to step up and take over."

It's a definite area of concern: the team has just one passing touchdown, thrown by Fisher in garbage time against Towson in Week 1. They scraped by at Buffalo 23-7 thanks to a terrific ground game but Keith was a mere 6-for-15 passing in that game. Fisher was slightly better, going 7-for-13 but also threw an interception.

Alex Carder To Miss Saturday's Game Vs. Toledo

Youch. MLive reports that Western Michigan senior quarterback Alex Carder won't play against Toledo this Saturday after injuring his throwing hand. On the follow through, his hand struck a UConn player's helmet.

Tyler VanTubbergen will start in his place and you remember how well he torched Akron last year. He also took the remaining snaps in the UConn game after Carder exited the game in the third quarter.

Carder LOVES playing the Rockets, even he doesn't beat them, but in his senior year he'll miss it. Last year he threw for 548 yards and seven touchdowns in that 66-63 Tuesday night thriller. But he's 0-2 in his career against the midnight blue and gold. But TVT is a very capable backup QB, perhaps one of the tops in the conference. So the passing game oughta be alright.

Ohio Depth Chart: Tyler Tettleon With A '100 Percent' Chance To Play Vs. UMass

After missing all the fun in a blowout win over Norfolk State, OHIO quarterback Tyler Tettleton is expected to play in their MAC opener at UMass despite being questionable, reports Jason Arkley. Coach Frank Solich said he's '100 percent' sure of it, actually. What I'm interpreting this as, it's not clear how much time he'll play, but he'll get some action in.

[Correction: Tettleton said he's '100 percent' sure he'll play, not Solich. Apologies.]

Sorry, Minutemen. This is not the news you wanted to hear. Then again, given how well Derrius Vick played against NSU, maybe it didn't matter who lined up behind center. Hope you're bringing cornerbacks to Gillette Stadium!

Ball State Week 5 Depth Chart Changes: Little To Report

Not much to relay here. Chris Shillings was a backup W-receiver and is now a co-backup Z-receiver with Jack Tomlinson. ORs were removed at the safety positions: Brian Jones and J.C. Wade are now listed as top starters.
