College Football Rankings Week 9: Northern Illinois Doesn't Benefit From Louisville's Loss

Jonathan Daniel

Despite the slew of losses that occurred around the country this weekend, the Northern Illinois Huskies barely received a bump in the latest AP and Coaches polls.

The AP and Coaches poll's are out for Week 9 and there's a lot of movement up top. Six teams from the Top 10 a week ago fell this weekend, resulting in several teams taking significant drops in the rankings, including Louisville, which fell to No. 18 in the AP Poll and No. 16 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Florida State and Missouri each had significant jumps in the polls, and undefeated Fresno State received a nice bump as well as the result of the slew of upsets that occurred. But, despite all the movement up top, Northern Illinois barely received any bump in the latest rankings.

The Huskies beat Central Michigan 38-17 Saturday to improve to 7-0, but only bumped up one spot to No. 22 in the Coaches Poll, and stood still in the AP Poll for a second straight week at No. 23. Northern Illinois' slow start is likely to blame for the lack of movement, though its non-conference schedule which included two road wins over B1G teams should have helped them.

Ball State received a single vote this week after beating Western Michigan 38-17 and improving to 7-1 on the season.

The AP Poll doesn't count in the BCS Rankings which will be released for the first time this season tonight, so it's not a huge deal that NIU hasn't moved up. The computer polls that make up the BCS Rankings could have NIU much higher than 23. We'll find out tonight when the rankings are released.

The full Week 9 AP Poll is embedded below. The Coaches Poll is having technical difficulties again, so it's not available to embed at this time.
