Bowling Green scored touchdowns on (at least) four consecutive possessions for the third straight week and cruised to a 28-7 victory over Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon. UMass did not score until midway through the fourth quarter, after the game was 28-0 and out of reach. Mike Wegzyn relieved A.J. Doyle in the third quarter and led UMass on two long drives, including the one touchdown. The Falcons, who led 14-0 at the half, added two touchdowns at the beginning of the third quarter on consecutive drives that went 5 plays for 56 yards and then 5 plays for 55 yards. The two scores were by Tyler Beck (second of his career) and Heath Jackson (first of his career).
The Falcons enjoyed a 448-280 edge in total yards and managed to earn their first interception of the season.
UMass falls to 0-5, while Bowling Green improves to 5-1. Following a trip to Mississippi State and a bye week, the Falcons will take their 3-0 Mid-American Conference record into their Oct. 26th game at home against arch-rival Toledo.
We'll have more about this game later tonight with a complete recap.
