Bowling Green holds Eastern Michigan to Four Receiving Yards in a 58-7 Blowout

Dustin Creel did not have a catch against Bowling Green. - Andrew Mascharka- The Eastern Echo

Even by Eastern Michigan's standards, the Eagles played horribly. Three quarterbacks saw the field, but they were only able to complete one pass.

Bowling Green has a good defense. Eastern Michigan has a bad offense. But when you add those together, multiply that by the temperature at opening kickoff (27), you'll get one of these games.

The Eagles completed one pass all day. It was to Quincy Jones for a 4-yard gain delivered by Brogan Roback. One pass completion. Think about that. It's 2013 and we're still seeing games that have one pass completion. Let's put this into perspective:

The Eagles had more punts (11) than passing yards.

As a team, the Eagles completed more passes to the Falcons (2 interceptions) than their own team.

EMU had more sacks (5) than passing yards.

Linebacker Sean Kurtz had more yards on an interception than the receiving corps had as a whole.

There were more pass completions than red zone appearances (0) for the Eagles.

Starting for his fourth time, Roback started out flat. With the lone completion early in the first quarter, he had 11incompletions and an interception that fell into the hands of BGSU's Ryland Ward. Being replaced by Benz after a poor performance is ironic to say the least, but he didn't do any better. Benz was 0-for-5 in the air with an interception to Isaiah Gourdine. Next on the depth chart to get some playing time late in the second half was Mark Ianotti. He, however, did not throw an interception. Ianotti had his first pass attempt of the season, but it was just behind his receiver on the screen play, making it an incompletion. As a team, the quarterbacks for the Green and White was 1-for-18 for four yards with two interceptions.

The BGSU offense was on a roll and did not tap on the brakes for a long while. Matt Johnson had a field day with wide receiver Ronnie Moore. Johnson finished the day completing 13 of his 23 passes for 264 yards with three touchdown passes. All three touchdowns were thrown to Moore, which were for 74, 22 and 34 yards. Moore had 7 catches for 161 yards to end his day of work. This is Johnson's fifth straight game with 200+ passing yards and his ninth of the season.

As for the running backs, BGSU won that battle as well. Travis Greene led the Falcons with 15 carries for 126 yards with two touchdowns. Backup running back William Houston carried the ball seven times for 84 yards with a touchdown. His 44-yard scoring run was, not only his longest carry of the season, but longer than any of his single-game total rushing yards coming into Saturday's game.

As for EMU, Javonti Greene and Ryan Brumfield were both the team leaders in the rushing attack. Both with nine caries, Greene had 30 yards while Brumfield had 29. Bronson Hill carried the ball five times for a total of eight yards. As a team, the team had a total of 61 net yards.

Bowling Green, tied for first in MAC East with the Buffalo Bulls, improves to a 6-1 conference record (8-3 overall). Those two teams will meet up on Friday at Buffalo. The winner will move on to the MAC Championship game in Detroit on December 6.

The Eagles drop to a 2-9 overall record, still 1-6 in MAC play. They will go to Mt. Pleasant on Friday to take on rival Central Michigan in a battle for the Michigan MAC trophy. A win for the Eagles will keep the trophy in Ypsilanti for the third straight year and spoil CMU's opportunity at a bowl game.
