"Let me introduce you to the man they call Tree." - Michael Reghi

Reghi seems to always say something to that effect when mentioning Treadwell in the early part of each televised game plays in. Last year people were just starting to get to know Tree. Now, people around the MAC know who Tree is.

Treadwell came from relative obscurity out of Euclid High School in Euclid, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. He wasn't listed by any major recruiting service, mainly because he only played one year of organized high school basketball. He had dealt with academic issues his whole high school career but showed promise during his senior year. Treadwell was second team all-state, which is pretty good all things considered.

Treadwell entered Akron as a Prop 48 player, meaning in layman's terms that he'd have to sit out until his grades were in order. They have been ever since his first season, and he'll more than likely get one more year as a Zip because this is only his third year of eligibility. Nick Harney was in that same position coming in, and he's likely to get another year as well.

Last season Treadwell had a pretty good year, to say the least. He averaged 11.5 points per game and eight rebounds. Over the last nineteen games of the year, Treadwell only scored in single digits once. Treadwell also put up an impressive nine double-doubles. Majok Majok, the anointed king of double-doubles in the conference, also had nine. Treadwell needed more games to tie him, but it's still a statistic that doesn't get mentioned a whole lot when looking at the two in comparison.

As the key cog in the Zips rotation, Treadwell will see an increase in scoring opportunities this season. Now that Zeke Marshall is gone the paint is all his, and that will likely cause his scoring and rebound average as well as field goal percentage to rise. Not surprisingly Treadwell was named preseason first team all-conference and is a strong candidate for player of the year.

The MAC Tournament Most Valuable Player was the culmination of Treadwell's career so far. It really was awesome to see the kid from Euclid who has overcame so much raise that trophy high over his head. His career isn't over yet, and he certainly has some more goals to accomplish before he leaves Akron. The MAC Player of the Year is within reach, but he'd be happy with a Sweet Sixteen or Elite Eight instead.
