MAC Baseball Alums: Bowling Green

Reliever Burke Badenhop was traded from the Rays to the Brewers during the offseason. - Kelvin Kuo-US PRESSWIRE

The Falcons feature two certain big leaguers, but beyond that there aren't really any players close to becoming the third.

My favorite factoid about BGSU baseball is a pitching staff in the late '70s that featured Cy Young winner Orel Hershiser, Detroit Tigers pitching coach Jeff Jones and MLB umpire Jim Joyce. They've also produced longtime minor league slugger Andy Tracy, setup man Roger McDowell and two-time World Series winner Doug Bair. Those were the glory days, but they still have a crop of alum worthy of praise, especially since two of them are surefire big leaguers.

Last MLB Player: Burke Badenhop/Nolan Reimold, present
P Name Drafted 2012 Team 2013 Team Comments
RHP Burke Badenhop 2005, 19th rd Tampa Bay Rays Milwaukee Brewers Badenhop is starting to become a well-traveled reliever. After being part of the famous Miguel Cabrera trade between Detroit and Florida, he was flipped to the Rays in 2011 and again to Milwaukee this past offseason for Raul Mondesi, Jr. He's a good, solid reliever that should stay in the majors for a few more years, at least.
2B Jon Berti 2011, 18th rd Blue Jays High-A Dunedin Blue Jays Same
RHP Ross Gerdeman 2011, 35th rd Diamondbacks Rookie League Missoula Osprey Same?
OF Nolan Reimold 2005, 2nd rd Baltimore Orioles Same Reimold played just 16 games last year before succumbing to injury. He should be back and should have a nice season as the team's fourth outfielder.
RHP Brennan Smith 2010, 33rd rd Tigers Class A West Michigan Whitecaps Same Smith had a terrific season in 2011 with the Short Season-A Connecticut Tigers but hasn't advanced beyond Class A yet. He's no longer in the Whitecaps rotation, but Bless You Boys says his ceiling is a big league reliever.
RHP Charles Wooten N/A Ind. League London (Ont.) Rippers ? Wooten's Rippers folded midway through last year and spent the rest of the season as a glorified traveling team (the "Road Warriors"), then everyone was deemed a free agent. The transactions page indicates that Wooten signed with the Lake Erie Crushers, but he's not on their roster page.
