MAC Football Week 3 Overview

Michigan already beat up on CMU. Now they get Akron...sorry Zips' fans. - Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Week 3 of #MACtion begins Saturday at noon. Make sure you know when and where to watch your team play.

Day & Time (ET) Road
Home Watch It
Sat, Noon Bowling Green 2-0 (1-0 MAC) Indiana 1-1 ESPNU
Bowling Green is riding high after two dominating performances. The Falcons feature a stout defense that will be put to the test by Indiana's offense this week. The Hoosiers feature one of the nations best passing attacks and are averaging 54 points through their first two games. A win in Indiana would also go a long way towards earning BGSU some votes, even though the Hoosiers aren't a power team by any means. A B1G win is a valuable win.
Sat, Noon Akron 1-1 No. 11 Michigan 2-0 B1G Network
You might want to avoid this one all together. Central Michigan was slaughtered by the Wolverines in Week 1. CMU is a better team than Akron. This is going to be ugly. Holding Michigan to less than 60 points is the only way this game can carry any positives for the Zips.
Sat, 1 p.m. Eastern Michigan 1-1 Rutgers 1-1 ESPN3
EMU shocked me a bit last week, holding its own against Penn State for most of the first half. Of course that didn't last, and the Eagles were beaten badly in the second half, but still there is no denying this team has fight. This game against Rutgers can go a long way towards defining who they really are.
Sat, 3:30 p.m. Stony Brook 2-0 Buffalo 0-2 ESPN3
Buffalo is angry after a 70-13 loss to Baylor in Week 2. This one looks to feature plenty of venting from the Bulls. Expect Joe Licata to lead a big offensive attack, while Khalil Mack and the defense will likely impose some pain.
Sat, 4 p.m. Ball St. 2-0 North Texas 1-1 Fox Sports Net
Fresh off a big win against Army, the Cardinals get to head out to Denton, Texas to face a North Texas team that gave Ohio some problems in Week 2. Ball St.'s offense has looked fantastic so far, and the Mean Green defense that had some early problems with Ohio. Expect this one to turn into a shootout.
Sat, 5 p.m. Northern Illinois 1-0 Idaho 0-2
The Huskies return to action fresh off of a bye week. They head out west to take on a lowly Idaho Vandals team that should be a style-points victory for NIU. Jordan Lynch is going to put up big numbers this week, not like that should shock anyone.
Sat, 7 p.m UMass 0-2 Kansas State 1-1
Ugh. After last week, UMass needs a good performance here to avoid being written off for the season. Good news for the Minutemen, Kansas State lost to an FCS team as well. Bad news, that loss came against two-time defending FCS champion North Dakota State.
Sat, 7 p.m. Kent State 1-1 (0-1 MAC) No. 8 LSU 2-0 ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU
Hopefully Dri Archer returns to action in this one, though don't be surprised if he sits just out of principle. LSU is very, very good. This is easily the toughest SEC opponent a MAC team will face this season, and the conference hasn't fared to well against SEC teams. Just ask Miami.
Sat, 7 p.m. E. Washington 2-0 Toledo 0-2 ESPN3
Fresh off a tour of the SEC, Toledo finally catches a break with a home game against an FCS opponent. But wait, most MAC teams have struggled with FCS schools this season, and Eastern Washington has already knocked off a Top 25 team this season. Expect to see the Rockets' offense finally take off this week in what should be a barn-burner.
Sat, 8 p.m. Marshall 2-0 Ohio 1-1 ESPN3
Ohio looks to make it three straight wins against Marshall in the 57th Battle for the Bell. Ohio restored some faith in the fanbase after beating North Texas 27-21 in Week 2, but now the 'Cats will have a bigger test. The Thundering Herd feature a prolific offense, and their defense seems to have improved mightily over a year ago. Ohio is going to have its hands full.
Sat, 9 p.m. Western Michigan 0-2 No. 19 Northwestern 2-0 B1G Network
P.J. Fleck's inaugural season in Kalamazoo has not gotten off to a great start. Now the Broncos have to go face a very good Northwestern team. This is going to a be another rough week for WMU fans, but pay close attention because if there is one man I would say Fleck compares the most to its Wildcats head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Fitz' has built Northwestern into a respectable program in the B1G, and based off of everything Fleck says, he wants to do the same for WMU in the MAC. Take notes P.J..
Sat, 10 p.m. Central Michigan 1-1 UNLV 0-2 Mountain West Network
A little late night MAC Football action this week as CMU heads out west. The Chippewas have had a rough start, losing badly at Michigan, losing their starting QB and RB in that game, and struggling against New Hampshire in Week 2. Luckily for CMU, UNLV has struggled more. The Rebels currently are near the very bottom of the FBS in defensive statistics such as points allowed, and are averaging just 18 points a game through the first two weeks. It's not a guarantee, but CMU might actually get a break this week.
