Eagles drop series to Tigers

Baseball is back and that means warmer weather is also around the corner! Pitchers and catchers reported in the majors, and College baseball opened the weekend with some fun and exciting games.

I posted about EMU being a potential dark horse to watch out for in the MAC this season, and while seeing them start the season at 1-2 may not sound all that thrilling, the action that took place on the field was. I can play the could have, would have, should have, game all night long, but the short story is the Eagles found ways to hurt themselves this weekend. The longer more intriguing story is the Eagles really put the pedal down against the #16 team in the NCAA.

In the Eagles win they found ways to get guys on base, but received less than adequate pitching from starter and juco transfer Jake Andrews. Adam Sonabend a senior who I'm very excited to watch lead the way for the Eagles had a pair of rbi's. Longo had a pair of hits and the Eagles used a 4 run 6th to ultimately win the game.

In games 2 and 3 however the Eagles made critical mistakes that ultimately lead to losses. 5-3, and 9-7. The losses should not concern anybody as it is only the opening series of the season, the 6 errors in 2 games however is a bit concerning. They are going to score runs this season, and that should excite fans. The errors will go away too. I think it is safe to chalk this one up as some opening series jitters and watch this team bounce back in their next outing against Tennessee Martin this Friday. I anticipate the Eagles will be more focused, and ready for that matchup.

While this team is going to need young pitching to step up and give the team a chance to win, this lineup gives the Eagles a strong shot to win on a daily basis.
