Toledo's Bernard Reedy Signs With Atlanta Falcons

Andrew Weber-US PRESSWIRE

No surprise to see Reedy catch on quickly at the end of the Draft. The fact he left the state is a bit of a surprise however.

Former Toledo Rocket wide receiver Bernard Reedy wasn't drafted, but he signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

Reedy was a First-Team All-MAC selection in 2012 at three different positions—wide receiver, punt returner, and kick returner. Reedy is also a an MVP of the Idaho Potato Bowl and the Military Bowl respectively.

The 2013 All-MAC Second Teamer ranked seventh in the MAC with 62 receptions.

Reedy, a three year starter for the Rockets excelled in special teams and posed a constant threat to defenses. Reedy had three career kick return for touchdowns, one punt return for a touchdown, and with a career receiving total of 196 receptions for 2,735 yards and 23 touchdown receptions he was a productive weapon in the passing game as well.

Reedy possesses an excellent skill set at the wide receiver position, but found himself entering a draft that was loaded at the position.

His big play and special teams ability are two reasons why it was likely he'd be signed immediately, if undrafted. In Atlanta he will instantly compete with one of the best receiving corps in the NFL. He should be able to learn in camp with the likes of Roddy White, Julio Jones, and Harry Douglas and work his way into the rotation.

Reedy is quick off the line and out of cuts. He possesses soft hands and is great at creating separation. But, he is undersized and often dropped passes which is hard to ignore. Joining a team that has such great depth at wide receiver means he may be auditioning for a job in the preseason elsewhere. His saving grace may be his special teams ability, which gives him a chance to hang on to a roster spot in Atlanta.
