Miami Football Players Hit The Weight Room

It was rumored that Don Treadwell interfered with the strength training staff at Miami and discouraged players from working in the weight room. If the above picture of Josh Dooley after just a few months of workout time under the Chuck Martin regime is any indication, I don't think that's going to be a problem going forward.

Jon Smith Says He Left Ohio Because of Jim Christian

A few weeks ago Bobcat nation was shocked to hear that just days after the 'Cats lost to Akron in the MAC Tournament senior forward/center Jon Smith had quit the team.

Smith, a quiet player had developed a reputation as being a hardworking low-drama player. But then he was gone, and there was no reason given. Well now, after Jim Christian took the job at Boston College, Smith is speaking out.

In an interview with the Ohio student newspaper, The Post, Smith says Christian is the reason he left, citing a feeling that the school wasn't being represented appropriately by its leader.

Something makes me think we haven't heard the last of this yet.

MAC Appears In Kiper's Latest

In his latest Mock Draft, Mel Kiper, Jr. has decided to follow a few rules (Insider only): He covered the first three rounds, with no traded picks, ,drafting straight up for need. In doing so, he selected three MAC players on the first day of the draft. He has Khalil Mack getting selected #3 overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He also has both Jimmy Ward and Dri Archer getting chosen by the Baltimore Ravens in the second (#48, 79) and third rounds, respectively. This is good news.

Don Teadwell Named Kent State Running Backs Coach

Remember Don Treadwell, the former Miami head football coach who was kicked to the curb midway through this past season, a season that saw the RedHawks go winless. Well it appears the meek mannered Don couldn't stand being away from MACtion. Despite being rumored as a top candidate for positions on Michigan State's staff, Treadwell has been hired as the Kent State running backs coach.

In an interview with the Alliance, Ohio Review Terry Bowden, who was speaking at luncheon Monday offered his thoughts on where his program at Akron is heading. He also mentioned that he'd like to see Jim Tressel get the vacant Akron Presidency gig.

Majority of Fans Oppose Paying NCAA Athletes According to New Poll

While the tone of the sports media may have taken a dramatic shift for mostly in favor of paying student athletes it appears the public doesn't feel the same way. In a new poll conducted by the Washington Post and ABC News it turns out that 64 percent of the public oppose the idea. 47 percent strongly oppose.
