Well, that wasn't entirely nice. Akron shot better and rebounded a LOT better (60-27) than the visiting Eagles. Notable in this game was Zeke Marshall's 1,000th career point coming on a dunk way early in the first half.
Also per the Zips athletic department, it's the first time three Akron players posted double-doubles in their Division I-A era, which dates back to 1980. Marshall had 13 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks. Nick Harney added 14 points/11 rebounds and Jake Kretzer (the freshman!) gave them 14 points and 12 rebounds. It was the first double-double for either Harney or Kretzer. Demetrius Treadwell and Brian Walsh also had 13 and 14 points, respectively. Basically everybody was in on this. They just used Coppin State for their own personal gain. Make of that what you will.
And with that, Akron looks to be one of the favorites heading into MAC play. They're 9-4, winners of five straight, and will host WMU on Wednesday to kick off the MACness.
