Hustle Belt's MAC Men's Basketball Player's of the Week: Week 8

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

With the eighth week of the season in the books it's time to name our MAC Men;s Basketball Player's of the Week.

East: Nick Kellogg, Ohio senior guard

LW: Javon McCrea, Buffalo senior forward

This was a tough call, as several players in the East put forth compelling performances this past week. Including the reigning East POTW Javon McCrea. But, Kellogg put up great performances in two games, that both happened to be wins, so he gets the nod this week.

Last Week (2 Games) Points FG% 3PT% Rebounds
Nick Kellogg 40 57 55 15

Kellogg led the 'Cats in scoring during their blowout of Longwood to start the week by putting up 17 on 6-of-11 shooting including 3-for-5 from three. He followed it up with a career performance in Ohio's non-conference finale vs. UNC Asheville on Saturday. After falling behind 30-15, and losing senior wing player Ricardo Johnson to injury, Kellogg, along with super JUCO transfer Maurice Ndour, willed Ohio back into the game, eventually winning 79-70. Kellog was lights-out, putting up a career-best 23 points on 7-of-12 from the field including 3-for-6 from 3-point range. He added nine boards to his stat line in that game as well. Not bad for a 3-point specialist.

West: Majok Majok, Ball State senior forward

LW: Julius Brown, Toledo junior guard

Again, another tough call out west, as Richuan Holmes put up great performances, and against tougher competition than Majok Majok faced this past week, but when you're AVERAGING 21.5 and 16, it'd be disingenuous to claim anyone else had a better week performance wise.

Last Week (2 games) Points FG% Rebounds Blocks
Majok Majok 45 70 32 3

All Majok² has been doing since he stepped foot on a MAC court is put up double-doubles. Through the Cardinals have struggled this season, Majok has not. He's averaging 10.8 and 10.6 a game. This past week, against James Madison Majok threw up 18 and 14, then followed it up with a monster 25 and 18 performance against Oakland City; in 25 minutes. He's a tenacious rebounder, with no fear of mixing it up with the biggest of centers. As MAC plays begins this week, expect Majok to bully smaller MAC forwards for the remainder of the season.
