2015 Miami Football Recruiting: TE Cole Chewins Commits to RedHawks

I promise we'll have a picture of Chuck Martin in Miami gear eventually. - Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Tight end Cole Chewins of Clarkston, MI committed to the Miami RedHawks on Tuesday.

Hot on the heels of Monday's news about the commitment from tight end Nate Vejvoda of New Lenox, Illinois, Chuck Martin and his Miami RedHawks staff have gotten a second pledge from a tight end: this time, it's Cole Chewins of Clarkston High School in Clarkston, Michigan, 2013's Division I state champions. Chewins himself first announced his commitment the other day on Twitter.

Chewins, rated a two-star commit by both 247Sports and Rivals, is a large young man: he comes in at 6'7" and 225 pounds. He chose Miami over offers from Ball State, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, and Kent State. In fact, according to Michigan-focused recruiting site The D Zone, EMU offered him not as a tight end, but as an offensive tackle. Given Clarkston High's power-focused offense last season, that may be in the cards for him at Miami as well, especially given Martin's pattern of lineman after lineman after lineman committing.

And Chewins counts that versatility as one of his strong suits. In an interview, he mentioned his ability to play multiple positions, specifically long snapper and tackle in addition to tight end, as an "intangible" that would help him on the recruiting trail. Obviously, he'd need to add some weight to his frame if he wants to play on the line in college, but given the results we've already seen from Miami's strength and conditioning program this off-season, that shouldn't be a problem.

Finally, here are some highlights of Chewins, courtesy of Hudl:
