2015 Miami Football Recruiting: TE Nate Vejvoda Commits to RedHawks

Nate Vejvoda - Student Sports

Chuck Martin's recruiting class keeps rolling along with a verbal from 3-star tight end recruit Nate Vejvoda.

After getting a verbal commitment from wide receiver Cedric Asseh last week, Chuck Martin and his staff got another pledge from a future target for quarterback Billy Bahl -- this time, from tight end Nate Vejvoda of New Lenox, Illinois. Vejvoda, rated a three-star prospect by 247, attends Providence Catholic High School in his home town.

He chose Miami over offers from Toledo, Western Michigan, and Central Michigan, proving that P.J. Fleck can't actually get commitments from every player in a five-state area.

Vejvoda played a key role in taking the Celtics to the state quarterfinals in 2013, where they lost a one-point heartbreaker to East St. Louis. He also played center for the Providence Catholic basketball team, whose season was not exactly stellar.

Although Vejvoda hasn't spoken to the press yet about his Miami commitment, prior interviews give a sense of why he may have been taken with Chuck Martin's offense. For example, in an interview with the Chicago Sun-Times' New Lenox affiliate, the Southtown Star, Vejvoda said he took special interest in schools that made the tight end a featured part of the offense rather than just as a blocker. That may give us a hint of how Martin and his staff see the tight end position: not just a blocker, but a receiver as well.

And football runs in Vejvoda's family. His brother, Mike, plays tight end for South Dakota State. One Miami tradition Chuck Martin has continued is going hard after players who come from football families, and at least here, it seems to have paid off.
