2015 Kent State Football Recruiting: LB Troy Dipre Talks Commitment to Golden Flashes

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sport

Find out why the All-Ohio selection decided to continue his playing days at Kent State, and more.

On Tuesday afternoon Lakewood St. Edward senior linebacker Troy Dipre became the second class of 2015 prospect to give Kent State and second year head coach Paul Haynes his verbal commitment.

"I broke the news off to coach Haynes. I chose Kent State because I feel like they wanted me the most," Dipre, who also held scholarship offers from the likes of Air Force, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan, and Toledo stated to Hustle Belt as one of the reasons why he chose the Golden Flashes over the aforementioned programs.

"Coach Haynes, coach [Ben] Nedham the linebacker coach, and coach [Don] Treadwell are all solid guys who I feel I can trust. I feel very comfortable with Kent State. They are looking for me to work hard and are going to push me to be the best. I think the players and coaches are honest and good people which is hard to find now. It was an easy sell. Now it's time to work so I can help the team out as best as I can," he added.

Playing alongside many other future Division I athletes at St. Edward's last season, Dipre, was an enforcer at the linebacker spot for the the Eagles. His 106 total tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions earned the 6'1 220 pounder spots on both the Northeast Lakes All-District and Division I All-Ohio first teams.

A very versatile defender, with decent speed, Dipre, is talented and tough enough to line up inside or outside, which is something he could very well do on the next level.

"Coach Haynes said he does not see me playing just the Mike or just the Will. He thinks I can play both, and I will have to work hard at whatever spot I can contribute to the team that is open earliest."

The football program isn't the only reason why Dipre decided Kent State was the right place for him, as academics also played a huge role in his decision.

"I think the school is very underrated, and is getting much stronger. My sister just graduated from Kent State, and loved it. She already has a full time job. I would like to study health training or sports nutrition. St. Ed's does not allow you to graduate early. If they did I would definitely do that."
