2015 UMass Football Recruiting: DT Diasjon Robinson Commits to Minutemen

Mark L. Baer-US PRESSWIRE

UMass kicks starts off its 2015 recruiting class with a DT from New Jersey.

Defensive tackle Diasjon Robinson, from Lincoln High School in Jersey City, New Jersey became coach Mark Whipple's first verbal commit at the FBS level when he committed to the Massachusetts Minutemen on May 14. Robinson, who chose UMass over Old Dominion and Colgate, was also starting to garner interest from Penn State and West Virginia which he visited last fall according to 247Sports.

UMass needed to add depth to their defensive line and Robinson will do just that. At 6'2'' and 270 pounds he has good initial size and will only continue to mature by the time he steps onto campus in the summer of 2015.

Rated a 2 star prospect by 247sports, he is a nice start to the UMass class which isn't used to having commits that are highly regarded by the recruiting websites. Coming out of New Jersey this is an encouraging sign that UMass is getting recruits from the Northeast outside of the New England area. Robinson was mainly recruited by defensive line coach Dave Sollazzo.

Robinson helped lead Lincoln to the NJSIAA North 2, Group 2 semifinals and a record of 10-2. UMass hasn't had anywhere near that kind of success since joining the FBS and the MAC so adding players like Robinson who are used to winning is a good way to try and combat the losing culture. Robinson was also selected to the First Team All-Hudson Defense by the Star-Ledger.
