2015 Ohio Football Recruiting: DT Brian Arp Commits To Bobcats

Frank Solich goes back to his old stomping grounds for his most recent commitment.

It took a while, but Ohio head coach Frank Solich dipped into his old bag of connections to pull in a commitment from Nebraska for his 2015 recruiting class, as he often does.

2015 defensive tackle Brian Arp announced via his Twitter Thursday night that he has committed to the Bobcats. He's the eighth player to commit to the 'Cats' 2015 class, but the first from outside Ohio.

Arp hails from Kearney, Nebraska, the home of former Bobcats great Noah Keller, and the state in which Solich spent most of his adult life as a part of the Nebraska coaching staff. In Nebraska, Solich is still viewed as a legend by some, and it's why he's had great success in bringing in some of the Cornhusker state's top talent during his time at the helm of Ohio.

While Arp may not be ranked by the major scouting services, the 6-foot-3 265 pound prospect fits Ohio's mold. He's physical, tough as nails and a hard worker. He also has plenty of room to develop and grow under Solich and defensive line coach Jesse Williams.

With offers from Liberty, South Dakota and South Dakota State, Arp chose Ohio and a chance to compete at the FBS level. As the only current defensive tackle commitment in what looks to be a small Ohio class—DaVon Hamilton, a defensive tackle who committed to Ohio in May, flipped to Pitt recently—Arp feels like a steal for the 'Cats.

He's an athletic defensive tackle with quick feet and great instincts. What he currently lacks in strength and size can be added, or he could be pushed outside as a strongside defensive end where his pursuit skills and ability to shed blocks would make him a threat off the edge.
