FINAL: Buffalo 33, Western Michigan 0

You have to give Western Michigan some credit.  Today at home against Buffalo, they allowed only one score until the third quarter.  When you're 0-7 and having one of the worst seasons in program history, anything positive is some level of progress.

Unfortunately, once Buffalo finally found the WMU end zone, the touchdowns didn't stop.  In all, the Bulls scored 27 second-half points en route to a 33-0 smack down of the Broncos.

Western Michigan managed just 202 yards of total offense and had only two drives of longer than 35 yards.  One of those ended in an interception; the other concluded with a missed field goal.  WMU never threatened to score in the second half, with three of their drives in that half ending with turnovers.  The other three ended in punts.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Buffalo rolled to more than 400 yards of offense and took advantage of WMU's complete futility on offense in the third and fourth quarters.  The Bulls scored on five of their six second-half possessions, and the only exception was when they ran out the clock at the end of the game.

The second half started when Buffalo intercepted backup Bronco quarterback Zach Terrell.  The Bulls couldn't move the ball but did kick a field goal for a 9-0 lead.  After securing a fumble recovery on the next drive, Buffalo scored the first of three consecutive touchdowns when Joe Licata threw a two-yard scoring pass to Mason Schreck.  Licata later threw touchdown passes to Fred Lee and Alex Neutz to put the game out of reach at 30-0.

Licata completed just 11 of 21 passes for 124 yards but his three touchdowns came with zero interceptions.  Branden Oliver rushed for 128 yards on 19 carries, while James Potts added 91 yards on 16 carries.  For WMU, Terrell threw for just 164 yards and two interceptions.  He also lost 34 yards total on 10 rushes.  Dareyon Chance led the Broncos with 54 yards rushing.

Buffalo now occupies sole possession of second place in the MAC East with a 2-0 league record.  WMU is now 0-7 overall and 0-3 in MAC play.
