MAC Football Power Rankings Week 11: The Mighty Bye-Week Strikes Again

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

In a week that featured just three games, somehow we actually have some movement in the power rankings.

Rank Rank (Pv) Team Record What We Learned
1 1 NIU 9-0   (5-0) NIU and Jordan Lynch are the most exciting thing to watch in the MAC. Lynch outscored UMass 35-19 all on his own, and he didn't even finish the game. Bad news for everyone else, Lynch isn't the only one scoring for the Huskies. The defense still leaves a lot to be desired, but as long as the offense keeps boat racing opponents by the end of the first half, NIU should be OK.
2 2 Ball State 8-1  (5-0) Bye-week, nothing to see here.
3 3 Toledo 6-3  (4-1) WOW! The Rockets, even without David Fluellen, might have the best offense in the conference. That rushing attack is dangerous and Terrance Owens is playing the best ball of his career. Now if only Toledo would quit wearing awful uniforms.
4 4 Buffalo

6-2  (4-0)

Bye-week, nothing to see here.
5 5 Bowling Green 5-3   (3-1) Bye-week, nothing to see here.
5 4 Ohio

6-2 (3-1)

Bye-week, nothing to see here.
7 7 CMU 3-5   (2-2) Bye-week, nothing to see here.
8 9 Akron

3-7  (2-4) The last time Akron had three wins in a season Alan and the gang from The Hangover had just romped through Vegas, and Hannah Montana was still a wholesome Disney character, and not dry-humping wrecking balls.
9 8 Kent State

2-8 (1-5)

My how the mighty have fallen. Kent State is a shell of what it was a year ago. The running game doesn't exist, and the old guys on defense are just that, old.
10 10 EMU

1-8 (0-5)

If not for everyone beneath them, the Eagles, which keep getting blown out, and their coach who for some strange reason benched the best player on the team, would be lower.
11 11 WMU 1-8  (1-4) Bye-week, nothing to see here.
12 12 UMass

1-8 (1-4)

UMass wasn't shut out this year vs. NIU, so that's an improvement.
13 13 Miami 0-8  (0-4) ANOTHER bye-week.
