Former Fighting Irish cornerback Lo Wood and tight end Alex Welch are joining Chuck Martin and quarterback Andrew Hendrix in Oxford.

In a past article noting the transfer of quarterback Andrew Hendrix from Notre Dame to Miami, where he'll be eligible immediately, we said that a few other players were rumored to be joining the RedHawks from South Bend, but there hadn't yet been public confirmation. Well, today we have it: cornerback Lo Wood and tight end Alex Welch will be coming to Oxford. Like Hendrix, both have graduated and will be eligible immediately. The Chicago Tribune first reported Wood's transfer, while the Cincinnati Enquirer broke the news about Welch.

Wood, a product of Apopka High School in Apopka, Florida, was the #44 cornerback prospect in the country in the class of 2010. He was named to the all-Central Florida First Team by the Orlando Sentinel and the all-Florida Second Team by SunStateFootball.com. He chose Notre Dame over offers from Michigan, Stanford, and Georgia Tech, among others. After two solid years in the defensive backfield, he missed the entire 2012 season with a knee injury before bouncing back for 2013. Wood has a close connection with Chuck Martin, who was his position coach in South Bend before taking over offensive coordinator duties.

Welch, a graduate of Elder High School in Cincinnati, was a four-star recruit who came to Notre Dame as the #4 tight end prospect in the nation. He chose the Irish over offers from Michigan, Oklahoma, and Florida State, among others. After a season of solid contribution on special teams his sophomore year, he tore his ACL and missed all of 2012. Although he never returned to the promise he showed before his injury, he'll be a great addition to a Miami roster that has lacked a solid tight end for some time.
