Jaime Wilson Leaves Western Michigan, Moves Closer To Home

Marilyn Indahl-US PRESSWIRE

The 2012 MAC Freshman of the Year has apparently announced his departure from the Western Michigan football program according to head coach P.J. Fleck

Last year, Western Michigan saw a plethora of injuries to many key players, none bigger than then defending MAC Freshman of the Year Jaime Wilson.  The sophomore wide-receiver injured his ankle just weeks before the start of the season and ended up sitting out the entire season.

Today, he announced his departure from the Western Michigan football program, per MLive's David Drew:

This comes as a surprise, as Wilson was an expected starter and key contributor to a stacked wide-receiving corps that has just signed Lonnie Johnson a week ago.  Wilson was one of the last recruits in the Bill Cubit era, with Cubit being notorious for snagging players from the Sunshine State often.

Wilson will have 2 full years left wherever he lands, with a possible 3rd likely being granted pending a medical redshirt from the NCAA.  He'll burn his normal red-shirt when he transfers.

Wilson will finish his Bronco career with 67 catches for 792 yards and 6 TDs in just 10 games, while adding a total of 204 yards on punt and kick-off returns.

UPDATE: According to David Drew's article, Wilson was horribly bothered this past season about being so far away from his daughter (very moving wording in the article) and was granted his release to an unnamed school.  With the granted release, he'll be eligible to play right away.
