With rain showers and lightning bolts coming down all night, the Kent State Golden Flashes and Illinois Fighting Illini will have to wait until Saturday afternoon to kick off their 2015 campaign.
This one was originally scheduled for 8:00 p.m. local time in Champaign, but the poor weather had the start delayed from before the opening kickoff. At first, the delay was only set for a hour, but the conditions that led to the delay continued. At about 10:30 local time, the University of Illinois announced that the start time would be moved to Saturday.
Saturday's game will be the opener for Illinois coach Bill Cubit, who replaces Tim Beckman after he was fired exactly one week ago.
The delay also interferes with the Big Ten Network's scheduling plans, and because of that, the game will only be seen on BTN2GO.com or on the BTN2GO app for iOS and Android products.
