Miami Loses Big to Kentucky, 41-7

"I think they can go 0-12." That's what a fellow writer tweeted at me in reference to Miami (0-2) during the RedHawks' 41-7 loss Saturday. After what I saw, he may very well be right.

Nothing went right for them Saturday, and they were manhandled by a Kentucky Wildcats team coming off of a 2-10 season. Miami was smaller, less skilled and had no answer for Kentucky's "air-raid" offense. The RedHawks gave up 675 yards of offense to Kentucky. That's the third highest single-game total in Wildcats' history. Miami's offense was even worse than the defense, failing to score a single point all game. The unit managed just 123 yards...for the entire game.

To put that in perspective, Kentucky's second-string quarterback Jalen Whitlow, out gained the entire Miami offense by 28 yards.

Austin Boucher managed to put up a worse performance than last week, managing just 23 yards on 4-of-14 passing, and led the team in rushing with 28 yards on 19 carries. The offense was stale, slow, and utterly confused, and this was against a team that only had one FBS win a season ago. The lone Miami score came on a 6-yard fumble return by linebacker Chris Wade, who finished the game with seven tackles.

Today proved one thing: Miami is going to have a very loooong season. Things were so bad that the punter had nearly five times as many yards as the offense. This was an ugly game that illustrated every single flaw with this RedHawks team. There are many.
