Sunday MAC Basketball Review: Classical Classics

Today in MACsketball:

Green Bay 69, Miami 65 — The CBE Classic rolls on in Oxford, but you just can't mess with a mascot like a Phoenix. A dead bird that comes back to life? Forget it. But this one was very back-and-forth. UWGB started off with a 14-3 run but Miami actually led at halftime. Unfortunately, Coles' boys couldn't hold the lead and the Phoenix held the slight lead for the last 6:47. Nick Winbush and Antonio Ballard led the way with 15 and 14 points each. One more in this classic CBE Classic. Miami's next game: today vs San Diego State

OHIO 83, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 70 — Does it bother nobody else that A&MCC is called the Islanders, but they're really quite peninsular? Maybe that's why they lost; if they can't nail down geography, what hope do they have to find the basket with regularity? At least the Bobcats were there to pick up the slack as four men hit double figures, led by DeVaughn Washington with 16, and while D.J. Cooper wasn't one of them, at least he had 12 assists. Ohio's next game: Tomorrow vs. Valparaiso

Charleston 64, Toledo 51 — I wasn't at this one (three in a row is pretty rough, especially when it conflicts with my curling league) but maybe it was for the best. The Cougars pulled away at halftime and at that point it was a matter of keeping pace and not losing by more than, say, 20. Malcolm Griffin came off the bench to lead the Rockets with 12 points and five assists. Toledo's next game: Wednesday, 11/24 at Youngstown State

Northern Illinois 81, Cardinal Stritch 57 — Uh, yeah. So NIU wipes the floor with NAIA competition. I could've told you that. NIU's next game: Wednesday, 11/24 at Maryland Eastern Shore

Monday's Games:

7 p.m. — Miami vs. San Diego State
7 p.m. — Bowling Green vs. Duquesne
