Last night in MACsketball:
Kent State 69, Louisiana-Monroe 53 — So this is what the basketball fracas was about last night in the Cleveland/Akron metro area, right? ...Right? Because the Flashes are now 7-1 after bopping an overmatched Sun Belt foe. That's something to scream home about. Justin Greene and Carlton Guyton both had 17 points, but Greene was the inside man while Guyton flared five threeballs. Once Kent pulled out to a 30-19 halftime score, the Warhawks just couldn't get anything to fall to make this one interesting. Only 21 fouls and 15 free throws let everyone get home just a wee bit early to get their Hannukah shopping done. Kent State's next game: Sunday, 11/5 at UAB
DePaul 86, Northern Illinois 84 — It looks closer than it really was, because for the fat part of the game NIU was down by 10 to 15 points. But they did inch forward at the end, springing into a decent position to run past the Blue Demons to give the MAC their first win over a power conference team this year. (Unlikely time for it, no?) Unfortunately, the Huskies just couldn't get a stop and a meaningless Xavier Silas three at the end gave us the final score. Silas did rebound from a hapless showing against Boise with 34 on this night, although he was also credited with eight turnovers. Jeremy Landers had a terrific second half, shooting perfectly to finish with 14 points after netting zero in the first. But DePaul sank 32 free throws, almost double what NIU attempted (18). Sort of hard to overcome that. Northern Illinois' next game: Tuesday, 12/14 vs. Illinois-Chicago
Today's lone game
8:30 p.m. — Eastern Michigan vs. Monmouth in Moscow, Idaho
There's also some type of football competition happening, I hear.
