Last night in MACsketball with more well-known revelations about teams that were supposed to be poor at basketball:
Belmont 83, Miami 72 — WELL-KNOWN REVELATION: Miami is better than this, but occasionally they'll have games like this. Nice nights scoring by both Nick Winbush (19) and Antonio Ballard (18), but their rebounding was atrocious and they fell into a first-half trap. It happens. Miami's next game: Sunday, 1/2 at Kansas
Bowling Green 70, Texas-San Antonio 59 — WELL-KNOWN REVELATION: Bowling Green is a different team at home. All of their four wins have come in Anderson Arena. Who knows. Maybe this is their going-away present before they christen The Stroh Center next season. Scott Thomas had himself a double-double day with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Joe Jakubowski shot mercilessly from behind the parabola for 13 points. Bowling Green's next game: Saturday, 1/1 at Saint Louis
OHIO 92, Norfolk State 56 — WELL-KNOWN REVELATION: The Bobcats can blow out inferior competition. The NSU Spartans have now lost nine straight, and maybe it would've been gentler had the Bobcats not used the whole fist. Tommy Freeman was the high man with 19 points (5-of-8 from three). D.J. Cooper had 11 points and 10 assists, and his initialed comrade T.J. Hall had 14 points and seven rebounds. OHIO's next game: Sunday, 1/2 vs. Robert Morris
UNC-Wilmington 64, Toledo 42 — WELL-KNOWN REVELATION: The Seahawks can still rock the three-point shot, and UT has trouble on the road. To start the game 7-0 was kinda surprising, but for UNCW to finish the half 33-9 wasn't. Reese Holliday's 13 points was the best anybody in blue and gold could do. Toledo's next game: Monday, 1/3 at Alabama
UNLV 73, Central Michigan 47 — WELL-KNOWN REVELATION: UNLV is a ranked basketball team. Trey Zeigler had 16 points but seven turnovers. and Jalin Thomas mustered both 11 points and 11 rebounds. Nigel Tufnel would be proud. Central Michigan's next game: Sunday, 1/9 at Western Michigan
