In a week where the "player of" race was quarterback heavy, it should come as no surprise that this week's winner put up the most impressive performance of the MAC's lone opening-week victory overall BCS school - a mediocre BCS school, but one nonetheless.
Wenning put up a very solid line in completing 23 of his 29 pass attempts for 173 yards and two scores, while carrying the ball eight times for another 61 yards and the Cardinals third touchdown of the game. Perhaps that makes it extra sad that our search engine only provided me two photos of Wenning, both of which are photos fromlast season of him getting sacked. Harbinger, perhaps?
However, there were a few other impressive performances and deserving candidates in the first week of college football action:
Bowling Green QB Matt Schilz - 8-of-10 for 170 yards and 2 TD in the first quarter.
Northern Illinois QB Chandler Harnish - 12 for 19, 195 yards, 5 TD 1 INT, 11 carries for 80 yards and 1 TD
Ohio QB Tyler Tettleton -16 for 28, 153 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 7 carries for 40 yards and 2 TD
Temple RB Bernard Pierce - 20 carries for 147 yards and 3 TD
EMU RBs Dominique Sherrer and Javonti Greene - 14 carries for 120 yards and 1 TD each
