Akron's Quincy Diggs Suspended For The 2012-13 Season

David Banks-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Reigning MAC Sixth Man of the Year Quincy Diggs will not play for the Akron Zips, the school has announced, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He violated not just team policy, but UA's student code of conduct.

Diggs would've been a senior this year. He was an absolute energy machine off the bench, doing a little bit of everything: he averaged over eight points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals per game in about 25 minutes of action. He began the year with a splash, scoring 19 points in a season opening upset of Mississippi State, then in their final game, a loss to Northwestern in the NIT, by scoring 18 more.

As noted by Mr. Miraski, Diggs is already off the Zips roster.

My off-the-cuff guess is that this will create more playing time for junior Nick Harney and senior Chauncey Gilliam, but as coach Keith Dambrot told the ABJ, his only concern with Diggs is not basketball-related, but hoping he can graduate. That could insinuate that the violation is academic-related, but it's just a guess.
