When you're down 10-0 to Akron at halftime, you best be certain the sport is soccer. Bowling Green took that to heart and responded in the second half with an unanswered 24 points and unrelenting defense to come away with their first MAC win of the season, improving to 3-3 (1-1). Akron falls to 1-5 (0-2).
The Falcons defense controlled the game, but the offense finally showed up too. It was a spotty game for Matt Schilz but he connected with tight end Alex Bayer for two touchdowns: one on a 60-yard screen play and another on a broken play, finding him in the flat near the end zone. Anthon Samuel, Jamel Martin and John Pettigrew combined for 265 rushing yards, a credit to that powerful offensive line.
After owning the first half with 267 yards, Akron mustered just 36 more in the second-half, all of them coming in their final last-gasp drive. More propers go to that BGSU defensive line, who sacked Dalton Williams four times. Coming into the game UA allowed only six sacks.
