We still have three MAC men's/women's basketball teams yet to partake in postseason tournaments. Eleven in all qualified and the first eight that played went 2-6. This is saddening.
MEN'S:
OHIO: Plays Michigan tonight in the NCAA tournament, obvs.
Akron: Fell to Northwestern in the NIT in a very close/exciting game.
Buffalo: Destroyed American in the CIT, faces Oakland next.
Kent State: Lost in the CIT to USC-Upstate, and it wasn't even close.
Bowling Green: Shot between the eyes in the second half against Oakland in the CIT.
Toledo: Topped McNeese State in the CIT, now hosts Robert Morris in the second round.
WOMEN'S:
Eastern Michigan: They'll play South Carolina in the Women's NCAA tournament on Saturday.
Bowling Green: Shocked by VCU in the final seconds of the WNIT.
Toledo: Drew Detroit in tonight's WNIT opener.
Central Michigan: Season ended at Illinois State in the WNIT for the second year in a row.
Miami: No chance to keep up with Richmond in the WNIT.
So as you can see ... not a lot of groovy things happening right now. Toledo women are the only one I wholeheartedly expect to continue playing in their second round and I'm not so sure about Toledo men against RMU or even Buffalo taking on Oakland, as I saw first-hand how that one went. Our last chance for MAC glory in the postseason is to perhaps the CIT inadvertently declaring Kent State the CIT champion per clerical error.
