Hockey Bracketology: My Guesstimate

Ok, so it's 1 am and I'm just getting back into Kalamazoo. The entire town is still celebrating St. Patty's Day (or the CCHA title in my mind, don't take it away from me), so I can't sleep yet because sirens will surely wake me up. Therefore, instead of writing a recap that is half-assed, I'm going to do the easy work of predicting the EXACT field and locations of those participants in the NCAA tournament.

The actual for reals bracket will be announced at noon on ESPN-U. I don't get that channel, but since WMU won, I know they are in. Miami had a great finish, and they are in. Bowling Green had an awful season, and couldn't pull it out in Detroit, so they are out. That's our MAC bases covered.

Ok, enough stalling, lets do this.............

Our Auto-bids:
AHA: Air Force
Hockey East: Boston College
CCHA: WMU
ECAC: Union
WCHA: North Dakota

The Pairwise is as followed:

1. Boston College (HE)
2. Michigan
3. Union (ECAC)
4. North Dakota (WCHA)
5. Miami
6. Ferris State
7. Minnesota-Duluth
8. Minnesota
t-9. Boston U
t-9. Maine
11. Denver
t-12. UMass-Lowell
t-12. Cornell
14. WMU (CCHA)
t-15. Michigan State
t-15. Northern Michigan
t-15. Merrimack
t-22. Air Force (AHA)

So to break ties we use the RPI. Cornell goes to the 4-seed band, and MSU is the last team in. How close was it? Had RIT beaten Air Force, MSU would have lost a comparison, and NMU would have jumped into the slot. NMU: a team that hasn't played in 2 weeks. Yeah, I almost think the NCAA would just go with Merrimack instead. Alas, MSU is the team, and they are pretty deserving. Merrimack, the team that was the last to get a loss, is now out of the tournament, insane.

Our bands:

1-seeds: Boston College, Michigan, Union, North Dakota
2-seeds: Miami, Ferris State, UMD, Minnesota
3-seeds: Boston, Maine, Denver, UML
4-seeds: Cornell, WMU, MSU, Air Froce

We place the seeds in the regionals (Minnesota goes to St. Paul).............

Northeast Regional (Worchester, MA)
No. 1 Boston College vs No. 16 Air Force
No. 7 UMD vs No. 9 Boston

Midwest Regional (Green Bay, WI)
No. 2 Michigan vs No. 15 MSU
No. 6 Ferris State vs No. 10 Maine

East Regional (Bridgeport, CT)
No. 3 Union vs No. 14 WMU
No. 5 Miami vs No. 11 Denver

West Regional (St. Paul, MN)
No. 4 North Dakota vs No. 13 Cornell
No. 8 Minnesota vs No. 12 UMass-Lowell

Now we switch around so inter-conference match-ups are avoided.

Northeast Regional (Worchester, MA)
No. 1 Boston College vs No. 15 Michigan State
No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth vs No. 9 Boston

Midwest Regional (Green Bay, WI)
No. 2 Michigan vs No. 16 Air Force
No. 6 Ferris State vs No. 10 Maine

East Regional (Bridgeport, CT)
No. 3 Union vs No. 14 WMU
No. 5 Miami vs No. 11 Denver

West Regional (St. Paul, MN)
No. 4 North Dakota vs No. 13 Cornell
No. 8 Minnesota vs No. 12 UMass-Lowell

Now lets get some good attendance at these things.................

Northeast Regional (Worchester, MA)
No. 1 Boston College vs No. 13 Cornell
No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth vs No. 9 Boston

Midwest Regional (Green Bay, WI)
No. 2 Michigan vs No. 16 Air Force
No. 6 Ferris State vs No. 11 Denver

East Regional (Bridgeport, CT)
No. 3 Union vs No. 14 WMU
No. 5 Miami vs No. 10 Maine

West Regional (St. Paul, MN)
No. 4 North Dakota vs No. 15 Michigan State
No. 8 Minnesota vs No. 12 UMass-Lowell

I like it. We'll see what happens in a few hours. WMU tied both games against Union this year, in New York, in October. Both teams have grown since then. Miami would get a chance for revenge if both teams won.
