Toledo's Going To Win The WNIT Again, Aren't They?

Sure, OHIO is the only "men's" MACsketball team still playing. But as for the women? There's one left, and you can probably guess who it is and which tournament.

Cincinnati Bearcats (16-16) 11
Toledo Rockets (23-9) 37

I've seen this movie before and I know how it ends. The Toledo athletic department will continue to outbid the competition on the Women's National Invitational Tournament. They'll keep selling tickets, pack the place, and keep winning WNITs until the end of time. Even when they qualify for the NCAAs, it seems sensible for them to just keep going to the WNIT and buying home games like this. It's a perfect scheme.

As for this particular game... well, if you're going to shoot 4-for-26 in the first half with six offensive rebounds, then yes you're going to only score 11 points in a half. The second half was basically a glorified pop-a-shot contest since it was clear who won the game by the time everybody got up at half for nachos. Courtney Ingersoll led UT with a piping-hot 6-for-9 on threes for 24 points. Yolanda Richardson banged inside for 14 points and Andola Dortch provided 13 points and dealt out seven assists.

Their next game will be ... yep, home against VCU, the team that ruined BGSU's season in the opening round of the WNIT. THIS SHOULD BE TOLEDO-BOWLING GREEN GROWL GRUMBLE KVETCH

College athletics may ultimately be about the money so remember that after hosting six home games, they turned a profit of over $78,000. And the attendance will continue to climb. Last year they had 2,637 attendees through two games; this year they're at 4,147 and rising. And for what it's worth, the Rockets are 9-1 under Tricia Cullop in the WNIT. I don't know what this means other than they love consolation tournaments because they're good at them. The first time they lose one of these babies will be astonishing.
