WNIT - QUARTERFINALS 1 2 OT Total
Syracuse Orange (22-14) 31 33 10 74
Toledo Rockets (24-10) 26 38 9 73

And that's how it ends. Overtime loss that had no business getting to extra time. Much credit goes to Syracuse for pulling out a near-buzzer-beating 3-pointer to tie the game.

Simply put Syracuse shot and rebounded better all game. What also put the Rockets behind the 8-ball was some pretty flat free-throw shooting. They had no problem getting there (both of SU's centers fouled out with a combined 34 minutes of playing time) but 24-for-41 really left some points on the line. Despite the Orange turning it over 12 more times, the Rockets just made some uncharacteristic mistakes which inevitably cost them a trip to the WNIT Final Four.

Fun year, though! Both men's and women's basketball teams had stiff competition on the top-end of the conferences, although the division was far more pronounced on the women's side. While most of the teams had postseason tournament flameouts, OHIO had its obvious Sweet 16 run, Toledo stayed home and racked up WNIT wins, and let's not forget Buffalo and Toledo won CIT games. That was it, though. The other seven teams were knocked out in the first round of whatever tournament they made.

It has to end sometime, and it usually ends quicker than we want it to. But for those of us who are baseball fans we have that to look forward to. If you're not ... then I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but all that's going on right now is spring football and any other news that should arrive between now and the 2012 football season. Such as, y'know, the football schedule.

We'll wrap up the basketball season the only way we know how, then move on. And thanks again for following us this season. We have more where that came from.
