So check this game out:
That's all I really need to say, hopefully. Here's the live stats box score. But LET'S GO DEEPER:
• The two teams combined for 101 at bats, 51 runs, 45 hits, 9 doubles, 18 walks, and no stolen bases.
• Only nine pitchers were used overall … and you can bet that next time out they're all going to work on something. Everyone who toed the mound allowed at least two runs except Kent State's Tim Faix, who finished the game with 1 earned run in 1-2/3 innings.
• Kent State football scored 35 against Akron and 33 against South Florida. This game would've been their third highest-scoring game in the 2011 season.
• Kent State lost the first two games of the series 6-5 and 9-6. The 26 combined runs in those games is almost half that of today's total.
I'm struggling to find any MAC baseball record books ... but I don't think that 51 combined runs can possibly break any conference records (I hope not). Kent State's previous 2012 high was 18 against Ball State while BGSU did blast 24 runs against Malone. And in terms of all of NCAA baseball, on April 6 I noticed that Maine beat UMBC 32-14, and I'm sure you can find other scores smattered throughout this season and previous.
