I feel really bad for Duquesne. They have no basketball coach and they really like Keith Dambrot, who has done a nice little job getting Akron a regular season title this past season and, well, for the last seven years where he's averaged over 23 wins a season.
He ain't a spring chicken but you'd think he'd have other suitors as well. And turns out he does. But earlier in the week Dambrot said "no" to the Dukes, who offered to increase his salary.
That was to be the end of the story — until they offered the job to him AGAIN. And Dambrot still said "no."
Per the Akron Beacon-Journal, it's possible that Duquesne would've doubled his salary. He would have gone from the MAC to the Atlantic 10, which in terms of basketball prestige is higher, and even though Duquesne has a successful FCS football, maybe Akron's aggregate sports (including soccer) make it a more visible sports college. Who knows.
As for Duquesne taking another run at the man ... I don't know. Maybe this is how business is done in other corners of the world. Or maybe they get a kick out of rejection. Maybe their gambit is to keep asking until Dambrot gets fed up with it and says "Okay, if I coach you, will you stop calling me?"
