Belt Loops: Buffalo Got Themselves A New Athletic Director

News and notes from around the MAC:

• Buffalo can finally scratch that big vacancy off their to-do list. "Four to six weeks" my fanny. Danny White was the senior associated AD at Ole Miss but he's had numerous stops at MAC schools and, well, now we don't have to worry about that position anymore. He replaces Warde Manuel, you may remember, who went to UConn. [Bull Run]

• Who likes softball? The MAC Softball Championship begins today with four games: Toledo-WMU, CMU-Kent State are the lowest seeds and then the winners play OHIO and Bowling Green, respectively. It's a double-elimination party so don't fret if your team takes a lickin' today. [MAC-Sports]

• It's interesting how many former BGSU women's basketball players on that 2006-07 team went into coaching. And I just knew at some point that they'd come back to the Bowling Green staff in some capacity. One of them has: Colgate assistant Ali Mann (and maker of BGSU's "The Shot") is joining Jennifer Roos' staff for the next season. [Toledo Blade]

• Former All-MAC linebacker Isaiah Ballard has not had an outstanding last 12 months. Last May he was arrested for felony assault, leading to his exile from the team as a top tackler. He finished his career at Division II Findlay but Monday night Ballard was shot in the leg during a drive-by shooting. [Blade]

• Look, a new Western Michigan blog! Our own Brandon (Brown & Gold) teamed up with another gent, Brian Persky, to start this one. [Saddle Up, Fight On]

• And just so we're clear, Steinbrecher doesn't go to the Big East, right? [NY Times]
