MAC Basketball Top 25 - #19 Chauncey Orr, Bowling Green G/F

The second entry from Bowling Green on our Top 25 MAC Basketball Players list is Chauncey Orr. The 6'4" junior will play a key role for the Falcons during the 2013-2014 season and is one of two returning starters from last year's team.

During last year's 13-19 season, Orr was a team leader in a plethora of statistical categories. He was third on the team behind the departed A'uston Calhoun and Jordon Crawford in scoring with 7.5 points per game. He was also third on the team in three-point shooting. From the charity stripe, Orr led all Falcons with at least 10 free throw attempts by compiling a 81.5% conversion rate. In addition, he contributed 3.7 rebounds per game and led all returning players with 1.6 assists, 1.0 steals, and 27.3 minutes per game.

Orr started 31 of BGSU's 32 games, with his only time off the bench coming on Senior Night against Buffalo. During the early going, he struggled to score and managed double-digit points in only three of the team's first 16 games. However, one of those three was versus Michigan State. Orr scored 16 a team-best 16 points in that contest on 6-for-7 shooting, and that included a perfect 3-for-3 from long range.

The second half of the season, primarily against Mid-American Conference competition, went much better. Orr posted double-digit scores in eight of the Falcons' final 16 contests. He scored 16 at home against Akron and 17 in a road game against IPFW, but Orr's season-best total came in an important home win over Kent State. Against the Golden Flashes, Orr shot 5-for-9 from the floor and connected on 4 out of 5 three-pointers. He was also a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line. His 18 points paced all players in the 70-55 BGSU victory.

With the departures elsewhere in the lineup, Orr's importance and role will increase as BGSU heads into the upcoming season. He'll have to increase his scoring, which means that he'll have to shoot more. The big question in that equation is whether or not those extra shots will lower his efficiency. The Falcons hope that Orr can simply get to the basket more and create high-percentage opportunities for himself. And really, scoring is the big question for the 2013-2014 Falcons, as it was with last year's edition. Bowling Green should continue to be excellent on defense; whether or not they will win many games hinges on how much more offense they can count on. Orr will play a key role in determining which way BGSU goes on that spectrum.
