Eastern Michigan finally defeats Miami, 65-58

The Eagles took a victory against the RedHawks for the first time since the 1998 MAC Championship.

The last time Eastern Michigan basketball beat Miami was 16 matchups ago. Earl Boykins was a senior. Charlie Coles was in his second season with Miami. A loaf of bread cost, let's say, 50 cents. And since that 92-77 MACT victory, the RedHawks had routinely taken the Eagles to task, winning by an average margin of victory of over 12 points. They got close recently, but it took the retirement of Coles for EMU to finally surpass them in a basketball game.

This afternoon, the Eagles basically held control for the entire game, Miami made their move near the end but it wasn't enough. So the streak is over. No, it's not one that particularly rankled them — it's a non-divisional opponent — but it's another longstanding tradition of defeat that has gone into the trash bin.

Top players:
Derek Thompson, EMU: 16 points (5-13, 4-10 3PT, 2-2 FT), 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, 1 TO
Will Felder, Miami: 12 points (4-7, 0-1 3PT, 4-7 FT), 9 rebounds, 1 block, 1 TO
