UMass Basketball Recruiting: Derrick Brooks Didn't Visit UMass on Friday

No offers came across the air waves this week, but Friday salvaged an otherwise quiet week with an official visit from a 2014 point guard.

UPDATE (10/16): Derrick Brooks has committed to Wofford, according to Evan Daniels.

UPDATE: It appears that Derrick Brooks didn't visit on Friday. Thanks to one of my followers for doing the dirty work on this one.

Alright then. Brooks is likely still on his visit to Wofford.

The thing about following recruiting is that eventually, things start to slow down. Its been weeks since we've heard anything on the football front and after three offers last week, the UMass Minutemen took things down a notch and had a quiet week of practices.

That changed on Friday when some news of possible future Minutemen broke courtesy of 247Sports and Bob McGovern of the Maroon Musket. According to 247, 2014 point guard Derrick Brooks took his official visit to Amherst on Friday.

Brooks is a three-star point guard, according to 247Sports' Composite rating, from Bartow, Fla. and holds offers from 21 schools. Most of the schools are mid majors, but Auburn and South Florida have also offered the 6-foot-2 floor general.

According to Verbal Commits, UMass is one of five schools showing "high" interest in the player along with Chattanooga, Buffalo, Florida International and Appalachian State. Brooks took an official to Wofford this week as well and apparently he enjoyed his stay there.

For those who are unfamiliar with Brooks, here's a highlight video.

UMass currently has accounted for all 13 of its scholarships for the 2014-15 team, but there are always ways to work around getting more players on campus. Whether someone from 2014 goes to prep school for a year or someone on the current roster transfers, there is too much time left to consider the Minutemen done in the class of 2014.
