It was the David Fluellen show at the Glass Bowl as he racked up 220 yards on 23 carries and 4 touchdowns en route to a 47-20 Toledo win over Western Michigan.
Rare is the day that Toledo does more on the ground than through the air, but that's how it shook out as 360 of the Rockets' 528 yards were built on the ground game. In the pass game, Terrance Owens was 11 of 25 for 149 yards and a touchdown pass to Bernard Reedy.
For the Broncos, the stat that sticks out the furthest is turnovers: 2 picks, and 2 fumbles. Tyler VanTubbergen was 8 for 19 for 104 yards, and not only coughed up the two picks (both to Chaz Whittaker), but gave up a 3rd quarter fumble that Trent Voss picked up and ran in for a defensive touchdown. Zach Terrell came in for the Broncos in garbage time and actually outdid VanTubbergen: throwing 10 of 13 for 185 yards and a score. Granted, it's against the second and third team, but compare that to Logan Woodside who came in for a few reps for Toledo and only managed to go 2 of 8 for 6 yards.
Next week, the Broncos host the Buffalo Bulls, while Toledo enjoys a bye week.
