MAC Basketball Week In Review: Most teams filled up on caloric easy wins

Also, Northern Illinois almost beat Nebraska. I know! Here's a recap of the previous week in MAC basketball. Teams are sorted by win-loss record.

Derek Jackson plays for Kent State. Continue to try and remember this.

Toledo 6-0 RPI: 85 BBState: 10
LAST WEEK
(W) Florida Atlantic, 94-74 (at Detroit)
THIS WEEK
Wednesday: vs. Detroit
Saturday: at Robert Morris
Yes, that's the same Detroit they played (and beat) while playing two other games in a tournament in Detroit. Detroit Detroit Detroit.
Kent State 7-1 RPI: 41 BBState: 26
LAST WEEK
(W) Youngstown State, 83-79
THIS WEEK
Sunday: vs. Kennesaw State
Wednesday: vs. Bucknell
It's going to take another two months to get accustomed to the reality of Derek Jackson, Kent State Point Guard. This isn't like professional sports where scads of trades and free agent signings get us accustomed to athletes in different colors. We hardcode one player to a logo and Jackson's supposed to be a Central Michigan Chippewa. If they transfer, they go out of the conference. Who was the last last double-MAC basketball player? Antonio Gates?
Ohio 6-1 RPI: 28 BBState: 30
LAST WEEK
(W) Mercer, 76-67
(W) Evansville, 81-59
THIS WEEK
Saturday: at Oakland
On a team of unknowns, the Bobcats are starting to jell back into a squad that we may not necessarily recognize in terms of faces, but we've seen this novella before with respect to an impressive nonconference record. Their next big test is UMass a week before Christmas.
Eastern Michigan 5-1 RPI: 68 BBState: 28
LAST WEEK
(L) @Kentucky 81-63
THIS WEEK
Tuesday: vs. Massachusetts
Saturday: at Purdue
The undefeated dream is over, but in actuality it was over as soon as they stepped foot into Kentucky. I didn't see them making a four-point game out of it with 15 minutes left in the game, but it wasn't meant to last. That's still a whole lot better than last year's trip. But please, maybe stop going to Lexington in the near future?
Western Michigan 5-2 RPI: 266 BBState: 204
LAST WEEK
(W) Oakland, 99-88
(W) Cornell, 83-70
THIS WEEK
Saturday: at Northwestern
Way to pump up the record. It should be known that Oakland and Cornell are a combined 0-15 against Division I foes. Northwestern is slightly better, even if they have never been in the NCAA Tournament.
Central Michigan 5-3 RPI: 274 BBState: 193
LAST WEEK
(W) @Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 68-64
(W) Jacksonville State, 66-61
THIS WEEK
Saturday: at SIU Edwardsville
If the Chips are going to be an up-tempo game, the last week of games proved they can also play to a crawl. After averaging over 70 possessions per game, they won against A&MCC and JSU with possession totals of 57 and 54, respectively. (That's slow.)
Buffalo 3-2 RPI: 284 BBState: 199
LAST WEEK
(W) Robert Morris, 81-66
(W) Delaware State, 65-55
THIS WEEK
Saturday: vs. Saint Bonaventure
Their next four games (Bonaventure, Canisius, Manhattan, Binghamton) are very winnable, so this could be the time for Javon McCrea to rise from the ocean and declare himself Sun Emperor of The State Of New York before facing Drexel.
Ball State 2-4 RPI: 172 BBState: 248
LAST WEEK
(L) @Utah, 88-69
(L) @ Cleveland State, 78-55
THIS WEEK
Wednesday: vs. Valparaiso
Listen. Consecutive trips to Utah and Ohio is going to suck the soul out of any basketball team. That's very inadvisable, back-to-back.
Akron 1-2 RPI: 92 BBState: 183
LAST WEEK
None
THIS WEEK
Saturday: at Cleveland State
Two weeks and no basketball games. During that stretch, Alex Abreu is tied for the team lead in points, assists, steals, and game started. But look at that: a game all the way at the end of the week. Plus, FOOTBALL SEASON IS OVER! (Although they weren't too bad this year)
Bowling Green 2-4 RPI: 174 BBState: 187
LAST WEEK
(W) Presbyterian, 67-45 (in Cancun, Mexico)
(L) Oral Roberts, 63-56 (in Cancun, Mexico)
THIS WEEK
Monday: vs. Western Kentucky
Saturday: at Xavier
A Thanksgiving weekend spent in Mexico is any college athlete's dream. Nothing but endless sun and perhaps turkey tacos, if such a thing exists. They may not make much noise in the MAC, but if they bring back turkey tacos, give Louis Orr an extension.
Northern Illinois 2-4 RPI: 339 BBState: 340
LAST WEEK
(W) St. Joseph's (D-II), 111-61
(L) @Nebraska, 63-58
THIS WEEK
Thursday: vs. Dartmouth
Not that Nebraska is a basketball death automaton, but losing by five at a Big Ten school is what NIU basketball probably aspired to two years ago. Now the sky's the limit. What next: lose by four? two?
Miami 0-4 RPI: 162 BBState: 319
LAST WEEK
None
THIS WEEK
Tuesday: vs. IPFW
Saturday: at Evansville
Basketball and football are now a combined 0-16. Education is what's really important, though.
Massachusetts (Atlantic 10) 6-0 RPI: 1 BBState: 7
LAST WEEK
(W) Clemson 62-56
THIS WEEK
Tuesday: at Eastern Michigan
Saturday: vs. BYU
How 'bout that. The MAC finally gets a Top 25 basketball team and it's not a MAC team after all. But we can count them as a MAC team on Tuesday when they travel to the sneaky good EMU, because what ranked team ever does that?
TOP PERFORMANCES
Ray Lee (EMU): 38 points (12-15 FG, 9-12 FT, 5-5 3PT), 2 rebounds vs. UT-Arlington (last Saturday)
Maurice Ndour (Ohio): 23 points (7-12 FG, 7-8 FG, 2-3 3PT), 11 rebounds vs. Mercer
Chris Fowler (CMU): 25 points (7-14 FG, 9-10 FT, 2-4 3PT), 8 assists, 3 steals vs. Cal State-Northridge (last Saturday)
David Brown (WMU): 31 points (8-16 FG, 11-13 FT, 4-11 3PT), 3 rebounds, 3 assists vs. Oakland
Justin Drummond (Toledo): 23 points (7-11 FG, 9-9 FT), 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals vs. Florida Atlantic
Mark Henniger (Kent State): 20 points (6-6 FG, 8-8 FT), 5 rebounds vs. Niagara (last Saturday)

You'll notice I included a few performances from two Saturdays ago. They were omitted from the previous list of performances, but needed to be included here since it was a light week.
