Akron Assistant to take medical leave of absence

1

Sad news out of Akron this evening as Director of Basketball Operations Dan Peters will be taking a medical leave of absence to begin treatment for pancreatic cancer. Peters has been by Keith Dambrot's side for for five years and had previously coached at Ohio State, Cincinnati, and was Youngstown State's head coach in the mid-nineties. The Zips have dedicated their season to Peters and the players are wearing patches in honor of Peters. It's clear how much he means to the players, as both Jake Kretzer and Reggie McAdams expressed admiration for Peters on social media before tonight's game against Bethune-Cookman. Former player Steve McNees will be assuming Peters' duties for the time being.
