UMass Basketball Stays Put at No. 23 in AP Top 25, No. 22 in Coaches Poll

An overtime win over Providence was exciting, but didn't swing many votes towards the Minutemen.

Last week was a slow week in the world of college basketball. The Christmas holiday coupled with the end of most team's non-conference schedules leaves few good games to be watched and even less to be learned about teams nationwide. The UMass Minutemen escaped a weekend matchup with the Providence Friars in dramatic fashion and both polls rewarded them by not moving them at all.

Derek Kellogg's team came in at No. 23 in the AP Top 25 and No. 22 in the USA TODAY/Coaches Poll for the second week in a row, gaining only points on those ahead of them. The biggest movers in the polls were Rick Pitino's Louisville Cardinals who saw their stock drop by eight and six spots, respectively. The Kentucky Wildcats, by virtue of beating the Cardinals, were the biggest risers as they went up three and two spots, respectively.
