College Football Rankings, Final 2013 Regular Season Polls: Northern Illinois Drops

The last human polls of the 2013 regular season are out, and things aren't pretty for Northern Illinois.

After losing to Bowling Green in Friday's Mid-American Conference Championship game the Northern Illinois Huskies took a massive hit in the polls today. With their BCS hopes dashed, the Coaches Poll all but confirmed it as the Huskies dropped five spots to No. 23.

NIU struggled to gain respect in the human polls all season long, and handed the doubters the fuel to the fire Friday, losing by 20 points. The Huskies undefeated season came to a screeching halt with the loss, and the rankings this week took notice.

The Coaches Poll ranking confirms that the Huskies will take a large drop in the BCS rankings, where they already lagged behind in the human components of the three-part system that decides the standings. NIU sat at No. 14 last week, but will surely drop out of the Top 20 in this week's standings. The drop isn't as severe as the one NIU took in the final Coaches Poll of 2012 after losing to Florida State in the Orange Bowl, but it is still massive.

NIU also dropped to No. 24 in the AP Poll, falling eight spots from last week's spot in the major human poll which has no bearing on the BCS standings. It's interesting to note that Bowling Green received 10 votes in the AP Poll this week.
