Akeem Springs Parts Ways With Huskies

Freshman guard Akeem Springs has officially left the Northern Illinois basketball team, dealing another blow to an already struggling Huskies squad.

The details are scant, because the story is still fresh, but freshman guard Akeem Springs, who came to the Huskies from Waukegan, IL, has officially left the basketball team for "personal and basketball reasons."

Feel free to speculate about what the hell that means.

Springs was averaging 7.7 points and 2.9 rebounds on the season to date, but his role had decreased in conference play, as he saw his minutes cut all the way from 20 to 14 per game, and his points and rebounds were down to 3.6 and 1.3 per game, respectively - he didn't even see the court in two conference games, including the Huskies' last outing against Toledo.
