MAC Baseball Alums: Central Michigan

Chippewas pro baseball consists of a bearded man and a ton of recent prospects trying to follow them into the big leagues, many of them with the Detroit Tigers.

Diamondbacks long reliever Josh Collmenter is the lone active Chippewa in the major leagues.

It hasn't been a wildly successful recent history for Chippewas baseball. Their last NCAA appearance was 1995. They did have a regular season title in 2010, but the glory days is most definitely the '70s and '80s that produced the likes of veteran pitcher Kevin Tapani and reliever Curt Young. Their only All-Star is Tom Tresh, who played in three All-Star games in the '60s for the Yankees, because of course you made the All-Star Game if you played for the Yankees.

Also interesting: in the last two years they've had eight players drafted, three of them by the Detroit Tigers. They know what they like.

RHP Josh Collmenter 2007, 15th rd Arizona Diamondbacks Same After about a season and a half of starting, Collmenter is now the D'backs long reliever. It's probably not where he wants to be but his funky super-overhand delivery is enough of a different look that Arizona enjoys using him there. Hey, whatever keeps you in the big leagues.
