Best case scenario, the time missed is during the spring only and Nick Harwell returns with the RedHawks to break Ryne Robinson's Miami career records for receptions and receiving yards. (He's very close to doing so.) But that future now hangs in the balance as the school announced that Harwell was arrested this weekend and has been suspended from football activities.
Per Rick Cassano of the Journal-News, Harwell was "charged with criminal damaging, theft and unauthorized use of a vehicle/vehicle trespass." This happened at an off campus apartment and somehow his ex-girlfriend was involved in the situation. And that's the crippling unspoken downside of college: if you date a classmate and it doesn't work out, you still have to share a campus with them.
Twice, Harwell has been second team All-MAC and in 2011 earned first team. This year is supposed to be the time he becomes the MAC's most prolific wide receiver. He's within striking distance, being 78 catches and 1,022 yards shy of the conference's all-time marks, both held by Jordan White. To put that into perspective, Harwell has averaged 76 catches and 1,055 yards.
He also did most of that with the graduated Zac Dysert chucking it to him. But this quarterback transition for Harwell could be somewhat offset by practicing with the new starter this spring. Oops.
